Need Gamer Opinions

In June i finally get my own PC (for college)

I am looking at the Dell Deminsion 8400 and the XPS Gen4 (due to price and customization opitions). I was looking at the 8400 due to its price of around $1500, but found an awesome XPS Gen4 for $2087. (both with 17 in FP monitor)

I am mostly leaning towards the XPS but want some opinions on both.

Question 1: ANYONE OWN or KNOW SOMEONE WHO OWNS ONE of these?


I am looking for a good graphic card, one i won't have to update for a while. It comes down to
-nVidia GeForce 6800
-Radeon X850 XT (cost me $400 more towards computer)

I'm leaning towards the nVidia (a hard choice for a Radeon guy). The price changed my mind, i'm on a mild budget (around $2000 - i could push to 2487 but don't really want to)


Question 2:: Is the 850 XT really worth the extra 400? Anyone know any sites comparing the two?

Well, I personally would get the XPS and the nVidia. I'm a nVidia guy so that might be why I would get the nVidia but I've always found them close to the same. So, XPS with nVidia

It's 6800GT vs. X800, not the 850. I bought my 6800 after reading this review. I used to be a ATI guy ;)

Compare the specs on the two systems, see which one is better. The 8400 is workstation based maybe?

the xps is more geared toward gaming...

i was just asking because i heard thier were some room issues with the 8400 when upgrading..

just trying to find somone that has the xps or 8400
